"A court in Mauritania acquitted journalist Maoulaye Najim, editor of the independent weekly Points chauds on charges related to articles he published revealing a prison porn film scandal. "Najim had been charged in 2005 for 'failure to inform the authorities before publication' of an article that revealed that prisoners in Mauritania were making pornographic films inside the West African nation's jails. "He was arrested in October 2005 and spent one day in jail before being provisionally released to await his trial. "The trial opened on April 22 [...] He added that he also presented proof to the court in Nouakchott that what he had reported was true. He was acquitted of all charges against him.
