The Hindu Aikyavedi has called upon the Indian government to ban prominent Sunni Sheikh Yousuf Al-Qaradhawi, head of the International Union of Muslim Scholars, from entering India and attending public functions there.
In an April 29 speech at an international conference to combat drug trafficking, held in Saudi Arabia, the director of the Bahraini anti-drug trafficking apparatus, Mubarak bin Abdallah Al-Marri, said that Iran was lenient towards drug smugglers who are infiltrating from Iran into Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, and that Iran is making groundless excuses to avoid taking responsibility for the phenomenon.
The London daily Al-Quds Al-Arabi reports that at the May 1 meeting in Egypt of the monitoring committee for the Arab peace initiative, Syria is expected to oppose a renewal of indirect Palestinian-Israeli negotiations.
The paper also stated that at the moment, there were no contacts between Syria and Egypt regarding a meeting between the presidents of the two countries.
Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas has said that the U.S. will undertake to prevent any provocative activity on Israel’s part, which will prepare the ground for a renewal of negotiations.
He stressed that he rejected a unilateral declaration of a Palestinian state because he sought international agreement for its establishment, or U.N. Security Council recognition for such a state.
