The new Egyptian government, headed by Ahmad Shafiq, today swore allegiance to Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak.
The Lebanese daily Al-Akhbar warns that the security apparatus of an Arab country has transferred to the Lebanese authorities unconfirmed information about the possibility of attacks on Christian and Muslim religious centers in the country.

The Syrian opposition website Nidaasyria, the website of the Damascus Declaration, reports that a Damascus demonstration in support of the Egyptian people and protesting the situation in Syria is now in its second day, and that the demonstrators intend to continue their demonstration until February 5, when a demonstration is planned to take place in front of the parliament in Damascus.
In response to expressions of support for protestors in Tunisia and Egypt by International Union of Muslim Scholars head Sheikh Yousuf Al-Qaradhawi, and his demand for the removal of the presidents of these countries (see Sheikh Yousef Al-Qaradhawi Joins In Support for Anti-Regime Demonstrations in Arab Countries ), Dr. Muhammad Al-Sa'idi, head of the Islamic Research department at Umm Al-Qura University in Riyadh, said that Al-Qaradhawi is not authorized to express his view regarding popular activity and the removal of leaders,.
