Report: Harkat al-Jihad Islami Suspected Behind The Marriot Blast

According to a report in the Urdu-language newspaper Roznama Jang, militant group Harkat al-Jihad Islami is suspected to be behind the truck suicide bomb blast at the Marriot Hotel in Islamabad on Saturday.

According to the report, there is a pattern in the use of certain explosives that points the finger of suspicion toward the Harkat al-Jihad Islami. The group, formed in the 1980s under the leadership of Qari Saifullah Akhtar, is an Al-Qaeda outfit active in Pakistan, Bangladesh and India.

The Roznama Jang report quoted unidentified officials investigating the Marriot blast as saying that the bomber used a mixture of RDX and TNT that was first used in the March 4, 2008 attack at the Pakistan Naval War College in Lahore.

The investigating agencies had reached a conclusion that the attack on the Naval War College was carried out by the Harkat al-Jihad Islami.
