Prominent Sunni sheikh Yousef Al-Qaradhawi has denied expressing support for Sen. John McCain in the recent U.S. presidential election (see "Initial Arab Media Reactions to Obama's Election" ), saying that he had actually wished for a win by Sen. Barack Obama.
He said that even though Obama's attitude towards Israel was no different than McCain's, his promise of change in domestic and foreign policy, his African origins, and his youth aroused hope that he would be better than Bush.
