In response to a speech by Morocco's King Mohamed VI on the plan for autonomy for the Western Sahara and the decentralization of authority in the country, the Movement for Autonomy in the Rif has demanded autonomy also for the northern Rif region, and has demanded that the status of the Berber language be anchored in the constitution.
