Egyptian Coptic attorney Mamdouh Nakhla has filed a lawsuit against Al-Azhar University over its refusal to accept a Coptic student to theology studies in the institution.
He said that the institution was acting unconstitutionally, because the constitution permitted any Egyptian citizen to attend any academic institution in the country.
Al-Azhar lecturers said that they were opposed to Christian students at the institution because they harm its historic nature.
However, lecturers from other universities in the country expressed support for the Copts' demands.
