Palestinian Legislative Council member 'Ayad Al-Kara has denied that the Hamas faction in the council approved, on the second reading, an Islamic punishment law (see "Hamas On Way To Ratifying Islamic Punishment Law").
Sources in human rights organizations in Gaza said that the PLC Law and Justice Committee had indeed held a workshop on the punishment law, but that many of its members opposed a law in the spirit of Islam.
