French President Nicolas Sarkozy told Lebanese newspapers in an interview that France and its European partners condemned the Israeli aggression, which he said had distanced the opportunities to attain peace, but added that France condemned in equal measure Hamas's continued firing of missiles into Israel, which was unacceptable provocation.
Sarkozy added that Hamas was the one who decided to end the calm and to go back to firing missiles on Israel, and that it was the one that bore the great responsibility for the suffering of the Palestinians in Gaza.
