Mauritania has recalled its ambassador to Tel Aviv for consultation, in protest against the Israeli offensive in the Gaza Strip.
A number of parties demanded that Gen. Ould Abdelaziz, head of the country's ruling Supreme National Security Committee, cut off relations with Israel, but sources in the political system say that Abdelaziz does not think that conditions are right for such a move.
