According to the Lebanese daily Al-Akhbar, information obtained by the Lebanese security apparatuses and UNIFIL indicates that extremist Sunni elements were behind the January 8, 2009 katyusha attack on Israel, and that the same forces were responsible for the rockets discovered in South Lebanon on December 12, 2008 and January 9, 2009. According to the information, these forces are affiliated with Al-Qaeda, and operate from various villages in South Lebanon against UNIFIL and other targets.
