In a speech marking Police Day, Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak said that known regional forces (i.e. Iran) have tried to take advantage of the Israeli offensive in Gaza to create a new reality among the Palestinians and in the Arab world.
Likewise, he said, attempts were made to increase the legitimization of the Palestinian factions at the Palestinian Authority's expense, while deepening the rift between Gaza and the West Bank.
He said that the Israeli-U.S. agreement for preventing weapons smuggling is not binding at all on Egypt.
