Saudi sheikh 'Aidh Al-Dosari has accused Iran of inciting the Shi'ites who have been demonstrating in recent days in the city of Al-Madina, following clashes that broke out between Sunni worshippers at the Mosque of the Prophet and Shi'ites visiting a nearby cemetery (see "Shi'ites Riot Near Prophet's Mosque In Al-Madina").
Al-Dosari called on senior Shi'ite officials in the Gulf and Saudi Arabia to condemn statements by Iran regarding Iran's sovereignty over Bahrain, and also the incitement by Shi'ite sheikhs who support Iran.
An Iranian news website reported that princes of the Saudi royal house who are hostile to Iran intend to start riots in Sunni areas in Iran, in order to make people forget about the Saudi security forces' violent treatment of Shi'ite pilgrims in Saudi Arabia.
It was reported that a Saudi diplomat was arrested in Mashhad, in northeastern Iran, for overstepping his authority, and was released following intervention by the Iranian Foreign Ministry.
The Saudi consulate denied the report.
