In Egyptian Parliament, Opposition To Restricting Polygamy

The Egyptian parliament's religious committee has opposed a bill by the Justice Ministry regarding restrictions on polygamy, stating that it is counter to shari'a.

The controversial sections of the bill, which has not yet been officially released, state that a man needs permission from his first wife to marry another, and that a man cannot divorce his wife by saying so but only before a judge and in the presence of witnesses.
