Iraqi Daily Compares Speeches by Iran’s Shah and Iran’s Supreme Leader
According to the Iraqi daily Al-Sabah Al-Jadid, the sermon delivered by Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei on Friday brings to mind the last speech by Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi in 1978.
The subject of both speeches was the same. Both speeches addressed broad popular demonstrations with acts of violence, the fall of victims, and the arrest of key political figures.
While the Shah acknowledged the popular demand for change and made promises for reform, Khamenei presented the exact opposite position, as he described the demonstrations as unconstitutional bid’aa, meaning a gimmick or fad, while at the same time standing firmly behind Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and confirming his bias during the elections. Khamenei ignored the killing of demonstrators and did not seek to comfort their families and friends
While the Shah had the courage to acknowledge the need for reform, Khamenei, feeling empowered by Allah's authority, could see no reason to apologize.
Have bin Laden and the religious groups which slaughter thousands every year ever apologized?
