A a U.S.-sponsored conference for supporting the peace treaty in Sudan opened yesterday in Washington.
The treaty was signed in 2005 between the National Congress, representing the Sudanese government, and Sudan People's Liberation Movement (SPLM), representing southern Sudan.
The head of the SPLM delegation at the conference, Malik Agar, said that the conference was the last chance to complete the implementation of the agreement.
The government representative, Ghazi Salah Al-Din, reiterated Sudan's demand that the U.S. lift its sanctions on it, and clarified that his country was implementing the agreement despite the difficulties it faced.
