The Muslim Brotherhood and Al-Gama'a Al-Islamiyya movements in Egypt have condemned the Egyptian Interior Ministry's decision to award the annual prize of recognition in the social sciences to reformist intellectual Dr. Dayyed Al-Qimni.
The movements state that Al-Qimni is an atheist who in some of his writings has called Islam a false religion.
In response, Al-Qimni said that he was a believing Muslim, and that he would continue to fight to eliminate the second article in the Egyptian constitution that states that shari'a is the main source of legislation.
