The Egyptian independent daily Al-Masryoon reports that Egypt will sponsor a Cairo meeting between senior Syrian and Iraqi officials and Arab League representatives, with the aim of resolving the Damascus-Baghdad crisis.
According to the report, Egypt will demand that Syria prevent Ba'thist operatives in its territory from harming Iraq, and that Iraq withdraw its demand to the U.N. secretary-general to establish an international tribunal for investigating Syria's involvement in the August 19 Baghdad bombings.
According to diplomatic sources, responses to the Egyptian initiative have been positive.
