Iranian Atomic Energy Organization Director Ali Akbar Salehi said that the Qom facility will serve as backup in case of an attack on Iran, and denied the claims of the Iranian opposition organization Mojahedeen Khalq regarding the existence of two additional nuclear facilities yet unknown to the West.
In an interview with the Iranian TV channel Al-Alam, Salehi said that thousands of centrifuges would be installed in Qom, in underground chambers, just as in Natanz, and that uranium enrichment would continue in both facilities. He stressed that Iran had complied with the IAEA regulation requiring it to report the facility's existence at least 180 days before the operation of the centrifuges.
