Participants in Baghdad Fair Not Required to Boycott Israel

In a letter in English issued by its foreign ministry, Iraq has annulled a provision requiring companies taking part in the Baghdad Annual Fair to submit a statement of boycott against Israel.

The European Union last May warned Iraq May that annulling this provision is a pre-requisite for European companies' participation in the fair, which opens November 10.

Sunni Iraqi MP Mithal Al-Alusi said that he had been suspended by the parliament following his visit to Israel, but that the constitutional court has abrogated the penalty.
