Muslim Brotherhood Leader: I Am Not Resigning

Muslim Brotherhood Leader Mahdi 'Akef denied reports that he intended to resign due to disagreement within the movement. He said he would remain in office as planned until the end of the parliamentary term, in January 2010, and then step aside in favor of the younger generation.

He added that he was not interested in confrontations with the Egyptian regime, since Israel and the U.S. benefited from disputes among the Muslims. He advised the NDP to refrain from running Gamal Mubarak for president, since all the political forces were against him.
