An assassination attempt was made October 31, 2009 against Sheikh Raed Al-Kazmi, representative in Damascus of Sadrist leader Muqtada Al-Sadr.
The Syrian security apparatuses have the suspected assassin in custody.
In September 2009, there were reports – denied by Sadrist movement – that several of the movement's officials had been assassinated.
