In Yemen, Journalists Punished for "Insulting the President"

Yemen's special press court has convicted the editor of the weekly Al-Masdar, Samir Joubran, and the paper's correspondent in the U.S., Mounir Al-Maweri, of "insulting the president."

Joubran has been sentenced to a year in prison and a fine of 100,000 riyals, and has banned from managing the weekly for two years, while Al-Maweri has been sentenced to two years in prison and permanently banned from publishing materials.
