The London daily Al-Quds Al-Arabi reports that Saudi Arabia has responded to Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad's appeal and has undertaken not to harm Shi'ite pilgrims coming to Saudi Arabia from Iran.
Tension around this issue emerged between the two countries following warnings from Iran to Saudi Arabia against harm to pilgrims (see and Khamenei: Demonstrate In Saudi Arabia Against 'Infidels' and Iranian Leaders Warn Saudi Arabia Against Harming Shi'ites During Hajj)
It was also reported that Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki will visit Riyadh on November 4, to calm Saudi-Iran tensions prior to the Hajj season.
