At a joint press conference with Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said that "Syria and Iran are aspiring for this summer to be hot by virtue of the victories that will be attained by the peoples of the region... and the enemies of the peoples of the region are on their way to perdition and defeat." Ahmadinejad, who is currently visiting Syria, added that Syria and Iran were a united and cohesive front against common enemies. He said that the enemies of the region must relinquish their plans to harm the interests of the region, lest "they burn in the fire of the rage of the peoples in the region." Assad, for his part, said that the rightness of the joint Iran-Syria vision was proven. During his visit, Ahmadinejad met also with Hamas political bureau chief Khaled Mash'al, Islamic Jihad secretary Ramadhan 'Abdallah Shelah, Hizbullah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah, and leaders of all the Palestinian factions in Damascus.
