The Al-Masri Al-Yawm daily reports that in a meeting in Libya with Libyan leader Mu'ammar Al-Qaddafi, Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak tried to dissuade Qaddafi from inviting Hamas to the Arab summit conference set to take place in Libya in March, for fear that Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud 'Abbas would boycott the summit.
The two also discussed Lebanon's participation in the summit, in light of Shi'ite calls to boycott it because of the claim that Libya, led by Qaddafi, is responsible for the 1978 disappearance of the founder of the Supreme Islamic Shi'ite Council, Imam Moussa Al-Sadr.
According to the London daily Al-Sharq Al-Awsat, Lebanese parliamentary speaker Nabih Berri, who is Shi'ite, said that it would be best for Lebanon to boycott the summit, or to send low-level representation.
