PA President Mahmoud 'Abbas said in a meeting with Egyptian newspaper editors that he believed in negotiations as a means of achieving peace, and that the use of arms in the Al-Aqsa Intifada had brought utter ruin upon the Palestinians. He expressed his support for popular struggle, adding that he would support armed resistance only if the Arabs endorsed this option and chose war.
About the inter-Palestinian reconciliation, he said that Syria is not opposing it, but Iran is.
