Arab Pessimism Vis-à-Vis Upcoming Israeli-Palestinian Talks

Against the backdrop of visits to the region by U.S. Vice President Joe Biden and U.S. Middle East envoy George Mitchell, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas told members of the PLO Executive Committee that he expected nothing from the negotiations.

Fatah Central Committee member Muhammad Dahlan said that there was no use in indirect or direct negotiations with Israel, but that the Palestinians were interested in giving the U.S. a chance to understand that Israel does not want peace.

Arab League Secretary-General Amr Moussa said that the U.S. had a last opportunity to revive the peace process, but expressed pessimism regarding its success.
