Bahraini MPs and politicians have demanded the expulsion of British Ambassador to Bahrain Jamie Bowden because of a secret meeting he held with representatives of the (Shi'ite) Al-Wefaq National Islamic Society, that they consider interference in Bahrain's internal affairs.
Also, on March 16, unknown persons threw a grenade at the British Embassy in Manama, an act condemned by Bahraini Foreign Minister Sheikh Khalid bin Ahmad bin Muhammad Aal Khalifa.
