Norway Weighs Shutting Down Egypt's Al-Rahma TV In Country

According to an article on the Norwegian website NRK, Norwegian authorities are to assess whether to block an Egyptian television channel that spreads antisemitism.

The article states that the channel, Al-Rahma, is now blocked by French authorities for spreading antisemitism. The decision of the French media decision, it said, was based on an October 31 Al-Rahma broadcast (to view this clip on MEMRI TV, click here)

The article noted that MEMRI is "behind the documentation and translation of content in the television broadcast from the Egyptian TV channel."

There must be a verdict before the Norwegian government moves on to the step that closes access to the channel, it said.

According to the article, NRK last month had more reportage in which antisemitism among Norwegian Muslims was the theme. It added that the problem has also been growing in Sweden, where many Jews have moved due to this reason. Also, it said, Teachers in Norway have been told of antisemitism among pupils, and Jewish parents have been harassed by students of Muslim background.

The article noted that several teachers to whom NRK spoke said that they thought that students of Muslim background absorbed some of these attitudes through television stations that may be received in Norway via satellite.
