After repeated failed attempts, the two Iraqi leaders with the largest blocks of seats in the new parliament, previous prime minister and Al-Iraqiya head Ayad Allawi and current Prime Minister and State of Law head Nouri Al-Maliki, finally met Saturday night.
The meeting lasted 30 minutes and was characterized as cordial but produced no tangible results.
The Iraqi parliament will meet today but is expected to adjourn indefinitely pending a compromise regarding the person who will serve as the next prime minister.
