Secretary of the Palestinian Authority presidency Al-Taib Abd Al-Rahim has announced that PA President Mahmoud Abbas will send a delegation to Damascus to demand that Syrian leaders prevent a planned conference of PLO, Hamas, Islamic Jihad, and Palestinian figures to oppose the upcoming Middle East peace summit at Annapolis (see "Former PLO Ambassador Criticizes Plan For Palestinian Factions Conference In Damascus").
According to Abd Al-Rahim, Abbas sees the Palestinian factions' meeting in Syria as providing the possibility of the establishment of a second PLO organization that will break away from the current PLO.
