Ansar Al-Shari'a Announces Execution of 3 Spies for U.S., Releases Video of Spies’ Confession

On February 13, 2012, the Yemeni group Ansar Al-Shari'a (AS), which is affiliated with Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP), released a statement and a video clip pertaining to the execution of three “spies” who allegedly assisted the US in the killing of AS members in a drone strike. The statement, dated February 10, was issued by the group’s shari'a court in the governorate of Abyan, in what it calls the “Waqqar Emirate,” i.e., the town of Ja’ar.
