Mujahideen in Iraq Develop Driverless Car Bomb

On January 31, 2007 the Islamic website www.Islammemo.cc, citing an anonymous source in the Iraqi police force, reported that the mujahideen have developed a driverless car bomb. According to the report, the driverless car can be directed at a target from a distance of forty to fifty meters. The report also added that the American forces in Daura and in Taji, near Baghdad, have already seen this development in action, when they were "surprised by a driverless car that came out of an alley... moved towards them and exploded near them, causing tremendous destruction."

The website cited an engineer from Baghdad University who explained that developing such a car requires great expertise, which suggests, according to the website, that the mujahideen routinely receive assistance from Iraqi engineers.
