Saudi Arabia has decided to return its ambassador to Qatar, after a three-year absence because of tension between the two countries.
The new ambassador, Ahmad Al-Kahtani, is currently ambassador to Syria.
Arab diplomatic sources say that the move indicates that Saudi Arabia has despaired of improving its relations with Syria, deciding instead to tighten relations with Qatar.
The sources added that move, which comes a month prior to the Arab League Summit in Damascus, will trigger further deterioration in Saudi-Syrian relations, which are already tense over the Lebanon crisis.
