Outgoing U.S. Ambassador to Egypt Francis Ricciardone has said that the criticism by incoming ambassador Margaret Scobey over human rights in Egypt was misunderstood.
He said that Egypt's newspapers had published only part of her statements, and had misstated them.
The U.S. Embassy is expected to release Scobey's full statements on its official website.
