Calls In Egypt For General Strike On Mubarak's Birthday

By email and on Facebook, groups of Egyptian youths are currently spreading the word about a general strike to mark the upcoming birthday of Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, on May 4, 2008.

The strike, participants say, will be greater and more extensive than the April 6 strike.

The youths are planning to spread news of the strike also on paper currency stamped with "No to Mubarak, No to Gamal."

Sources close to the Kifaya opposition movement said that the movement is also planning to call for a general strike on that day, and that it expects the strike to turn into a civil rebellion.
