The Syrian Minister of Economy and Commerce, Dr. Amer Lutfi, said in a letter to the Central Bank of Syria that the budgets and final accounts that come to the Ministry from banking companies, signed and approved by international accounting firms, contradict the principles of the Arab boycott of Israel. This is due to the fact that these international accounting firms are not Syrian in nationality, are not authorized by the Ministry of Economy for account auditing, and don’t have the right to sign the corporate accounts of Syrian companies.

The letter was triggered after some Syrian banks contracted with international accounting firms in contradiction to the provisions of the Syrian Trade Act No. 149 from 1949, specific to the Arab boycott of Israel.
