In Iraq, Al-Anbar Tribe Members Threaten Civil Rebellion

A senior official of the Al-Anbar Rescue Council has threatened to declare a civil rebellion in the Al-Anbar province if the Iraqi government does not respond to the provincial council's decision to remove the province's police commander from his post.

The official accused the Islamic Party of exploiting its influence in the provincial council in order to take over its security posts and to remove from them anyone not identified with it.

The Al-Anbar Rescue Council is made up of Sunni tribesmen who expelled Al-Qaeda members from the province in cooperation with the Iraqi government and U.S. forces.
