The permanent French representative in the European Union, Pierre Sellal, has said that France has asked the EU to begin procedures that will lead to the signing of an economic cooperation agreement between the EU and Syria.
However, knowledgeable sources in the European representation stressed that the agreement with Syria is still frozen, and that the EU is waiting for moves by Syria, including an exchange of ambassadors between Syria and Lebanon.
