The Turkish daily Sabah has reported that Turkey has lifted its ban on YouTube, said a Turkish Telecom official today, two days after a Turkish court ordered the Web site blocked because of videos insulting Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, the founder of modern Turkey.
Ahter Kutadgu, head of corporate communications for Turkish Telecom, said his company had been notified of a second court decision to lift the ban, and that the company had immediately opened access to YouTube.
The paper said that the ban had been condemned by the media freedom group Reporters without Borders, and drew attention to Turkey's shaky record on permitting free expression.
