An Egyptian court has sentenced Sa'd Al-Din Ibrahim, human rights activist and director of the Ibn Khaldoun Center for Research and Development, to two years of hard labor, and fined him 10,000 Egyptian pounds, for harming Egypt's reputation.
According to the ruling, which relied on an Egyptian Foreign Ministry report, Ibrahim had spread false information abroad in order to tarnish Egypt's name and to cause the U.S. to cancel its aid to Egypt, which would harm Egypt's security.
