Syrian First Lady: Arab Women Must Participate In Decision Making, Policy Making

At an award ceremony yesterday during which Syrian First Lady Asmaa Al-Assad was awarded the 2008 First Arab Woman Prize, Mrs. Assad criticized the status of women in the Arab world.

Mrs. Assad stated that despite the advances in Arab women's participation in culture, the economy, and politics, they must not settle for the situation. She said that women must play a part in political decision making and policy making.

The ceremony was held by the Arab Women Studies Center, in cooperation with the Arab League.
