German Intelligence Chief: Al-Qaeda Training Bases Transferred From Pakistan/Afghanistan To Mauritania

The head of the German intelligence apparatus BND, Ernst Uhrlau, has told the Hamburger Abendblatt newspaper that Al-Qaeda's training bases have been transferred from Pakistan/Afghanistan to Mauritania.

He said that Al-Qaeda was planning to launch attacks from there, to be carried out by Islamists coming from Algeria, Morocco, Nigeria, and Somalia.

He added that Al-Qaeda was basing itself in this region with the blessing of Osama bin Laden, and that it threatened Europe.
