Iranian Ayatollah Jannati: U.S., Israel Moving Towards Collapse

Tehran substitute Friday prayer leader Ayatollah Ahmad Jannati told a crowd of thousands of worshippers at Tehran University that the era of the U.S. and Israel was over and they were "inclined" towards collapse.

He added that "this [collapse] takes time, and history is moving in this direction, although they may not realize [it]."
Ayatollah Jannati also stated that the enemy had launched a psychological war and was trying to pretend that the Shi'a was a threat. He urged all Muslim clerics to stand against this conspiracy.

Referring to his recent trip to Egypt, Ayatollah Jannati said that Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is very popular there, and that an opinion poll in Egypt showed that he was second in popularity only to Hizbullah leader Hassan Nasrallah.

He added that Ahmadinejad's foreign policy had been very successful, and urged all Iranians to support the government, and underlined that the Iranian people was waiting to hear the good news that officials had promised.

He also expressed hope that one day Iran would gain access to the full cycle of uranium enrichment.
