New Regulations For Non-Muslim Religious Activities In Algeria

The Algerian government has issued a regulation requiring that non-Muslim public religious events must obtain advance authorization from the regional governor, who may reject the request if the event is judged to be a threat to public order.

The new regulation is based on a 2006 law regulating religious practice for non-Muslims, and is aimed primarily at countering Christian proselytizing in the Kabylia region and the Sahara.
