Known as Al-Zawraa, Arabic for "first channel," the TV station is owned by Iraqi MP Misha'an al-Jabouri, who is under indictment for embezzling funds earmarked for hiring guards for the Kirkuk oil pipeline. According to reports, some of the funds he paid to terrorists, but most of it went into his own pocket. He is currently a fugitive in Syria.

Al-Zawraa TV airs 24 hours a day on Nilesat, from a moving vehicle in the Anbar province in western Iraq. Its programs are by, or in support of, the Iraqi insurgence, as well as Al-Qaeda and other Sunni organizations. It is vehemently anti-Shi'a.

In a recent program, the Al-Zawraa host criticized the recent Baker–Hamilton Iraq Study group report, calling it a "naked" interference and saying it will take Iraq back to "point-Zero."
