Couple Slated For Execution By Stoning Tomorrow In Tehran

Iranian women's rights activist and attorney Ms. Shadi Sadar, of the "Law Without Stoning" campaign, has said that the Iranian authorities are planning to execute by stoning Makroumeh Ebrahimi, who has been in Qazvin prison for 11 years, and her boyfriend, who is the father of her son, for the offense of prostitution.

Following a public outcry, the director-general of the Qazvin Judiciary Authority denied that the execution would take place. However, it is not known whether the sentence will be rescinded.

According to Ms. Sadar, even though the regime has been concealing executions by stoning, it is known that at least one was carried out, in May 2006 in Mash'had.
