Turkish Humor Magazine Angers AKP, Islamists - Again

The cover picture depicting the new first lady Hayrunnisa Gul as a playboy girl with Islamic turban in the last issue of the Turkish humor magazine LeMan caused a stir in the Turkish media and brought severe criticism and threats on the magazine.

But the unyielding magazine’s latest issue, published today, is equally controversial. The cover cartoon that shows President Gul and PM Erdogan dancing with one another, is based on media reports about the August 30 Armed Forces and Victory Day reception, where the military officers danced with their spouses while the president and prime minister who never dance – in the Islamist tradition that bans such activity with women - watched and ate nuts.

Gul: So nice of you to ask me to dance, my Haji... I had had enough of eating nuts and almonds!..

Erdogan: You be careful... You are stepping on my foot and I'll break your bones!..
