Petition For Tolerance, Individual Freedoms Circulated In Algeria

Algerian newspapers have issued a petition condemning regime harassment of journalists, labor unions, and Christians, and calling for respect for tolerance and individual freedoms.

The signatories include Ali Yahya Abdennour, honorary chairman of the Algerian League for the Defense of Human Rights; historian Muhammad Harbi; cartoonist Ali Dilem; Kabylia Autonomy Movement president Ferhat Mehenni; journalist Arezki Ait Larbi; and linguists Salem Chaker, Said Doumane, and Kemal Nait-Zerrad.
